American Public Transport Foundation Scholarship 2022

Are you worried about funding your academic journey in the transit industry? The American Public Transport Foundation Scholarship 2022 is the right place to seek academic funding.

Regardless of the country, transportation is critical to the smooth operation of businesses. Transit workers are vital to our economy by ensuring people and goods make it to their destinations safely and on time. Consequently, this makes a career in the transit industry lucrative and fulfilling.

APTTF, in order to promote and ensure the retention of a large number of people who choose transportation as a career, provides scholarships and engagement opportunities to deserving students and transportation professionals.

Over 350 qualified students have received more than $1,500,000 in scholarships from the APTF Board of Directors since 1988. The APTF Scholarship program is designed to motivate and engage students and professionals interested in pursuing transit as a study.

  • The scholarship is open to sophomores (30 hours or more completed), juniors, seniors, or students of advanced degrees.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a fully accredited institution, maintain a 2.0 GPA in industry-related course work, and show a strong interest in public transportation.
  • The applicant must be sponsored by an APTA member organization. Sponsorship may be provided by any member organization.


Scholarships are for the academic year beginning in the fall semester. The 2022 application process will follow the timeline below:

  • March 2022 – Call for Applications announced
  • June 14, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) – Application Deadline
  • July 2022 – APTF Board of Directors will select scholarship recipients
  • August 2022 – Applicants will be notified
  • September 1-3, 2022 – Scholarship recipients will be presented at the APTA Annual Meeting​ and EXPO.

American Public Transport Foundation Scholarship Requirement

Applicants must submit a completed application, a letter of nomination, an essay, three letters of recommendation, a copy of the completed FAFSA form, official transcripts, verification of enrollment, a copy of the college’s fee schedule and lastly a signature of APTA sponsor.
